June Athlete Spotlight

This month, we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Nash — a passionate martial artist, rising 7th grader at Glynn Middle School, and an incredibly driven member of Team Georgia. With over six years of training under his belt and big dreams on the horizon, Nash is the kind of athlete who leads with determination, positivity, and purpose.

Nash brings energy and focus to every training session, whether he’s sparring hard or fine-tuning his kata. He understands the discipline it takes to grow in martial arts, and he’s not afraid of the hard work it requires — in fact, he thrives on it. When you meet Nash, it’s clear he’s motivated by both the challenge and the community that martial arts brings.

We sat down with Nash to learn more about what drives him on and off the mat. Here’s what he had to say:

Q: What school do you attend? Nash: Glynn Middle School — and I’m a rising 7th grader!

Q: How old are you? Nash: I just turned 12!

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up? Nash: I’d love to be one of the teachers here at The Brick, or a track runner on the U.S. National Team!

Q: What martial art do you practice with Team Georgia? Nash: Karate, American Chung Do Kwon!

Q: What’s your favorite thing about karate? Nash: I really like sparring, but I also enjoy kata because it mimics a real-life fighting scenario.

Q: Is there a specific goal you’re currently working on in your training? Nash: The ultimate goal is always to become a black belt, but right now I’m focused on getting the gold medal at the World Games in Norway or the Battle of Atlanta.

Q: What’s been your biggest challenge in martial arts? Nash: Staying disciplined and keeping up with training 3–4 times a week — that can be a challenge sometimes, but I’m pushing through and staying focused.

Q: How long have you been training in martial arts? Nash: Since I was four and a half— so about six and a half years now.

Q: What’s your proudest moment so far in martial arts? Nash: Overcoming the blue belt test. We had to do continuous sparring, and after I passed, I felt super proud of myself. I couldn’t have done it without the people who kept pushing and supporting me.

Beyond Martial Arts

Q: What do you love doing outside of Team Georgia?

Nash: Hanging out with my friends — biking, whiffle ball, getting exercise, and sleepovers on the weekends. My friends are really important to me, just like my family.

Q: What’s your favorite animal?

Nash: A saber tooth tiger!

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Nash: Texas, Miami, and obviously Norway. I’ve also been to Antigua and loved it, so I’d love to go back there too.

Q: Are you excited to travel to Norway with Team Georgia?

Nash: Yes!! It’s going to be so exciting — and of course, Team USA is the best!

Q: What’s been your favorite fundraiser for Team Georgia?

Nash: The 50/50 raffle and the car wash — those were a lot of fun!

Words of Wisdom

Q: What would you tell someone who’s nervous about trying out for the U.S. Team?

Nash: You’re going to be nervous — and that’s a good thing! It means you care. There are tough people on this team, but I believe anyone can be as tough as a U.S. Team member if they work for it. When I’m nervous, I tell myself to tough through it because I know I’ll get through it no matter what.

Nash exemplifies the enthusiasm, tenacity, and passion that defines Team Georgia. As he sets his sights on Norway, we’re excited to support him every step of the way. His dedication to his craft and his team is truly inspiring — and we can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next.
